Wow – finally had my first ride on these over the weekend and they are fantastic. I was apprehensive going into my first technical climb, but they’re the perfect blend of retention and the ability to bail. Excellent on downhills, as well. Plenty of grip with the mix of regular and K9 pins.

It’s a nice middle ground between flat pedals and clipless pedals. You get a strong down force, to keep your foot on the pedals during bumps and climbing, but still allows you to get your foot off the pedal when needed with little effort.

Takes a little time messing experimenting with the plate on the shoe to get it perfect, but when you get them dialed, the entire experience is awesome. Very secure, definitely helps with pedaling efficiency and having to constantly adjust your foot on rough terrain like with flats.
I’m recommending them to everyone!

Great questions! REMtech Pedals (V1 and V2) are designed to work best with a 2-bolt clipless flat, sticky sole. Our favorites tested in-house are Five Ten Hellcats Clipless and Ride Concept Transitions or Hellions Clip. Here is a YouTube Playlist discussing shoes with the recommended REMplate and traction pin placements for each shoe: Shoe Recommendation Videos. A couple of shoes recommended by customers (not yet tested in-house) are the Endura MT500 Clipless, Ride Concepts Tallac Clip, and FiveTen Trail Cross Clip-In, to name just a few.
You're on fire! That is another excellent question. REMtech magnets are most powerful in a north/south (straight up/down) direction on the pedals. When you move east/west (left/right), the force of the REMmagnets decreases, and it is easier to step out. You’re never “locked in” as with a clipless pedal: Only magnetic force holds your foot to REMtech pedals, and you can pull off in almost any direction. So no muscle memory needs to be trained, and releasing is intuitive and natural.
This has been a popular curiosity. Let's shed some light on the subject. If coming from flats, the learning curve will be much simpler. If coming from clipless, some habits will have to be broken.
A left and right pedal, 2 REMplates (shoe cleat), four shims (if needed), two washers, four bolts, a complete set of traction pins (traction pins installed with recommended pin setup – comes with 8 extra K9s and 8 extra Shorites), and a tool to install the traction pins.
V1 pedals can be rebuilt if you contact us at info@hustlebikelabs.com. We do not offer a rebuild kit for the V1 pedals, but we will offer a rebuild kit for the V2 pedals by the end of 2023 or the start of 2024.
While riding, most likely not going to happen. If you are in an iron-rich area, you might see a build-up of the fine stuff, and if you lay your bike down, it might also attract iron concentrate. But don’t worry; it is easy to wipe it off in case this happens.
As a matter of fact, they can be ridden as flat pedals. Put on some flat shoes (shoes without a cleat box) and get after it.
No, but you can adjust the connection based on your traction pin placement. The more K9 (taller) pins on the pedal, the less interaction you have with the magnet body.
They are, in fact, tool thieves. The pedals will stick to metal objects such as tools, other neighboring REMtech Pedals, and bike stands. Be sure to watch your fingers!
